How many devices can I connect to a Modbus 485 network with a T3-Nano?

The RS485 standard and the chips we use allow for up to 256 devices on each subnet. The T3-nano has two subnets so in theory the device could support up to 512 subnet devices. I have seen clients tie up to 300 and more to a single T3 device but it was a very difficult project to commission. They spent a lot of time and money getting that project to work properly due to mainly grounding and cabling problems. In practical terms it is best to stick to around 30 devices or less in a given subnet. If you have more devices then just add another T3 device. This will keep the network communications fast and the cabling easy to commission & maintain.
