Managing Multiple Projects

I initially posted this topic (part 1) in March 2024, but have not followed up until now. Some later parts of the original thread drifted off-topic so I will start a new thread

I am confused about how “projects” are organised within T3000. I have a simple project with a single “building” and a single T3-BB controller. I really want a “T3000 for Dummies” guide (step-by-step, words of 1 syllable) for how to set up a new project.

What I think I want/need to do is create a "New Building (project), attach my controller to it and a create a new program to run on it. In most apps, after starting there is an option to create a new version using File/Save-as…

T3000 also offers File/New Project - but this option is grayed-out / not available. Is this function supposed to work?

When first opening T3000 the system Tree shows “Default Building” and “local View” and connected controller. This controller can be programmed in the “Default Building”, but it seems strange to do everything in the Default - not the “actual building”. If I had 3 buildings, each with different controllers how would that work?

I understand how to create a “New Building” in the “Building Config Database” and if I do that I can find the associated folder in the file structure - Program Filesx86)/ T3000/ Database/Buildings/New Building.

However I dont understand:

  1. how to add this New Building to the system Tree (either in addition to, or instead of, Default Building.
  2. how to attach my controller to New Building (instead of Default building)
  3. How to save my program to the “New Building” folder (instead of Default)

Maybe for my single simple project I should just use “Default Building” and ignore creating a “New Building” as wasted effort?

For your simple project with one building and one T3 controller you dont need to create new buildings. Just use the default and you never have to deal with ‘Buildings’ again.

If you do another remote project you can add a new entry into the database at Tab2. A subdirectory is created and the project files will be stored there automatically. To maneuver between buildings you right click at Tab2 and select the new building.

Initially the tree at Tab3 shows a couple devices which were detected in the background, hit the magnifying glass at Tab4 to do a deeper discovery session and the devices which are detected will now show up in your tree at Tab5. Since I am not acutally in a new building the devices showing now are the same as when I started.
