T3-LB Fast Pulse Input Issue

I have the controller reasonably close to an ageing VSD/Pump combo. When the VSD is active the fast pulse inputs count rapidly, with the LEDs flashing a few times every 9-10 seconds. Regardless of cables being connected or not.

Is this a know issue? I searched the forum but not very hard sorry.

Thanks all

What you’re seeing with the fast pulse inputs may indeed be related to electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the nearby VSD and pump. While we haven’t specifically tested this exact setup, in theory this is very plausible. The fast pulse inputs on the T3-LB are designed to be highly sensitive in order to detect high-frequency signals, which also makes them more susceptible to picking up electrical noise, especially when close to older or noisier equipment.

It’s unfortunate. I have gotten around this issue before by putting an external delay off timer on the input and using low pulse count, but it is a less than ideal solution.

This does sound like a noise issue however we dont have any similar reports. I dont know if you can consider this as the wiring is all installed but you could add some metail shielding to the T3 enclosure.

I assume you are using the high speed counter to monitor a pulse output from the VSD. If you have an oscilloscope you could watch the waveform and see if that gives any clues. Perhaps add a ceramic capacitor in parallel to the input terminals to slow down the noise. Any throughole cap you can scrounge from some old electronics would be worth a try.

The input LEDs flash according to input pulse activity but I have to confess the flashing is done in software and only updated periodically. Its not a true reflection of the pulse activity, only an approximation.
