Simple email workaround

Although there is a post on the forum where you can theoretically get a T3 to email you an alarm, I have never been able to get it to work. It requires some fairly tricky set up with a particular SMTP server that doesn’t require the usual encryption. I think I read that’s because the ARM processors don’t have the horsepower for that. Well, I have found an easy workaround for all that.
First of all, you have to dedicate some digital (on/off) ports on your T3 to being “on” when there’s an alarm condition that you specify in one of your programs. Four is an ideal number as you’ll see in a minute.
Then go to Shelly USA and buy an i4 Gen3 controller for about $14. Connect each switch port to one of the digital ports on your T3 and the common port on the i4 to the ground bar underneath the digital output ports.
Next create a scene (in Shelly) to send you an email every time the digital port closes. (goes on)
Since Shelly has an app, you get a notification on your phone too!
Need more alarms, dedicate more digital ports and buy a second i4. :}

The SMTP was working last time I checked with Chelsea. You’ll need to update T3000 and firmware as usual but it was working…! You need to use an emial provider which can work without SSL security. There’s one I was using is at https://www.smtp2go.com/

You can get 1000 free emails per month on the free tier which is enough for a typical building. If you have a lot of sites you could use the paid tier, its not expensive.

Chelsea will post a tutorial here.

I wrote an email alarm tutorial before, you can check it for reference.
