TStat10 with ESP32 CPU

Any update on the ETA of the ESP based TStat10 units?

Populating the PCBs now, should be sampling next week. If you would like one you can order online and add some notes about the ‘New ESP32 version’

Hi Maurice,

Are the ESP32 TStat10 units now sampling?

Yes indeed they are, just make a note in the order that you are after the ESP32 version.

As an update on our field deployment with one TStat10 having the new ESP32 WiFi chip, we would recommend the addition of at least the SMD connector on these units, if not a WiFi antenna. We have some of our own custom sensors and the TStat10 at site, both using the ESP32 chips, but of different versions. Our custom sensor units with the newer ESP32 chips have a relative signal strength of -54 to -62 with the onboard antenna. In contrast, the TStat10 has a relative signal strength of -72 to -78 or lower at which point it drops out. We even moved the TStat10 to the same location as one of our sensors but doing so showed no improvement in signal strength.

In contrast, when we added the antenna to the TStat10 ESP32 module, we got a relative signal strength of -64 to -68 and can maintain our connections quite robustly.

As I had mentioned in January, ad hoc addition of the antenna is challenging based on the location of the antenna pad on the ESP32 module and the need to remove a jumper resistor so at least having the antenna connector onboard would be quite helpful.

Agreed, the SMA connector will give you some options for mounting an external antenna. We will have this added to the next production run.
